6 DIY Self Care Recipes with Rosemary and Mint
We’re always trying to take better care of our bodies and minds. In celebration of longer days and warmer months ahead, we’ve found some unique and fun ways for you to spoil yourself with the star scents of our new, seasonally-inspired deodorant! At this point, we’re basically the Martha Stewart of all things Rosemary and Mint and you can be too, with these amazing, DIY self care recipes.
1. Rosemary and Mint Tropical Virgin Spritzer
Uplift your mind and treat your tastebuds to a refreshing beverage you can have anytime! With invigorating hints of Navel oranges, fresh ginger, and you guessed it, rosemary and mint. This vegan and gluten-free mocktail can easily transform into a delicious cocktail with the simple addition of some chilled white wine. The star of the show here is the simple syrup… Here’s what you’ll need:
Simple Syrup
-
1 cup of water
-
1 cup of sweetener (your choice, but we love to use local honey)
-
2 sprigs of rosemary
-
15 mint leaves
-
1 medium Navel orange, juiced
-
2 inch ginger, grated
Add the ingredients listed above to a saucepan on a medium low flame and stir. Bring to a boil and set it aside to cool. Once it has cooled down, store your simple syrup in an airtight glass container and make sure you don’t strain it so that all of the flavors can infuse. This can stay in the fridge for up to a week.
Now it’s time to assemble the drink!
-
Add crushed ice to your glasses.
-
Strain the simple syrup and fill the glasses ¼ of the way.
-
Add tropical club soda. (You can also substitute juice or plain club soda.)
-
Add freshly sliced oranges and strawberries.
-
Garnish with a sprig of rosemary and mint.
Voilà and Salud to the refreshing mocktail of your spring dreams!
2. Rosemary and Mint Vapor Rub
Feeling a little congested? We got you! We’re all about natural remedies, so when early cold symptoms set in, bring some comfort with this revitalizing herbal remedy. Rosemary is thought to help with decongestion and ease headaches, while mint helps to soothe your throat and promote relaxation.
What you’ll need:
-
1 cup of coconut oil
-
½ tsp of peppermint essential oil
-
½ tsp of rosemary essential oil
-
an 8oz jar
How it’s made:
-
Heat the coconut oil until it melts.
-
Remove oil from heat and stir in essential oils.
-
Refrigerate for 10-20 minutes or until the edges start to solidify.
-
Stir again for about 6 minutes, making sure you scrape the sides so everything is thoroughly mixed.
-
Transfer to a jar, once it’s whipped evenly. (Coconut oil will re-solidify when cold, but warms and melts to the touch.)
Apply the rub to your chest and breathe deeply.
3. Rosemary and Mint Bath Salts
There really is no better way to end the day than with a warm, relaxing bath. Plus, according to Matthew Walker, Neuroscientist at UC Berkeley (interviewed recently on NPR), baths before bed actually trigger your body to go into a “cool down” mode, which helps you fall asleep faster and sleep more soundly. Here’s how you can step up your bath game with our favorite pals, rosemary and mint!
What you’ll need:
-
2 cups of Epsom salt
-
1/2 cup of baking soda
-
10 drops of rosemary essential oil (or 1 tbsp dried rosemary)
-
10 drops of mint essential oil
How it’s made:
-
Mix the dry ingredients together.
-
Blend in the essential oils.
-
Store in an airtight container and allow the ingredients to infuse together for one day.
Simply add a handful into your warm bath and soak in all of the benefits!
4. Invigorating Rosemary and Mint Hair Oil
According to an article in Medical News Today, Rosemary helps to stimulate your scalp and promote healthy hair. It’s not proven that you will make all of your friends jealous with how amazing you’re going to smell, but we think you might!
What you’ll need:
-
Sterile glass jar
-
Unrefined cold-pressed coconut oil (You can order this here!)
-
Fresh or dried rosemary
-
Fresh or dried mint
How it’s made:
-
Make sure your jar is sterilized by rinsing it with boiling water.
-
Add your herbs and the coconut oil. (Make sure they’re fully covered by the oil.)
-
Seal your jar and place it in a warm spot for about 2 weeks, shaking often.
-
Strain out the herbs and enjoy for up to 6 months.
Now you’re ready to use your DIY hair oil! Apply it to your scalp and work it through to the ends. You can leave it on for half an hour or even overnight, then wash it out thoroughly and repeat once a week.
