What is cold process soap, and why does it matter?

Cold process soap is made by combining oils and lye at low temperatures and allowing the bars to cure slowly over several weeks. We've used this method since the beginning of Humble because it preserves naturally occurring glycerin, which helps draw moisture into the skin. Faster methods strip this away. Cold process takes more time, but it gives us control over every batch and consistently produces a gentler, longer-lasting bar. The result is a soap that cleans effectively without stripping and supports skin comfort with simple, recognizable ingredients.

Is natural bar soap good for sensitive skin?

Natural bar soap can be a good option for sensitive skin because it avoids harsh detergents and unnecessary additives. Our bars retain natural glycerin and are made without synthetic fragrances or dyes. If you're especially sensitive, our Unscented bar keeps things simple with no added fragrance. As with any new product, patch testing is a good way to make sure your skin agrees.

How long does a bar of natural soap last?

A 5-oz bar usually lasts four to six weeks with daily use, depending on storage and how many people use it. Keeping your soap dry between uses on a well-draining soap dish helps extend its life significantly. Cold process bars continue to harden over time, which most people find helps them last longer than softer, mass-produced soaps.

Is bar soap hygienic?

Yes. Bar soap is just as hygienic as liquid soap when used properly. Research shows that bacteria do not transfer from the bar to your skin during normal washing. Soap works by lifting dirt and oils so they rinse away with water. Allowing your bar to dry between uses on a well-draining dish helps it stay firm and clean.

Is bar soap better for the environment than body wash?

In most cases, yes. Bar soap requires less packaging, weighs less to ship, and doesn't contain added water like liquid body wash. That reduces both plastic waste and transportation emissions. One bar typically lasts as long as multiple bottles of body wash, making it a more resource-efficient choice overall.

Does your bar soap work on the face as well as the body?

Our bar soap is formulated for the body and is gentle enough for most face types, though individual skin types vary. The cold process method and retention of natural glycerin make our bars less drying than conventional soap, which matters more for facial skin. Soap and deo
I’ve recently been making changes to my habits and rituals especially as it relates to natural vs synthetic products. I’ve tried a number of all natural soaps and have to say that Humble’s olive oil soap (especially the lemon grass and sage) is now one of my go-tos. I use it exclusively as a bath bar and it tends to last a deal longer than say a goat milk bar. The scents are invigorating and I can feel the sage suffuse my mind and being adding to the overall feeling of being clean/cleansed.
I have also been using aluminum free deodorants for about 7 years or so; it can be tough to find the right fit - especially during that initial detox phase! However, the brand I eventually settled on, discontinued their unscented version which sent me on a quest once again. Unfortunately, the skin in my armpits is sensitive to baking soda (horribly so) and essential oils. I tried some of Humble’s scented, baking soda free deodorants and quickly realized that the oils were also a problem, so back to the unscented I went. If there was one wish I have it is that the packaging for the unscented vegan sensitive skin deodorant was not plastic.
